Normally it is quite an onerous task to write a review about a horrorpunk band as mostly it will be about how much the same it is to the Misfits, how the vocals are only a Glen Danzig rip off.So usually rather despondant at best. However with the Other you are pleasantly surprised that when one listens to it, you are confronted with a wall of sound that speaks of sleek production and 14 tracks ( oh yes and do not forget the hidden one) that hammer themselves into your skull relentlessly. <br> The vocals have gone so far beyond what ever could be in reference to Glen Danzig, and all in all this band has gone so far beyond their first release that they have now gone and carved a very difinitive sound for themselves. <br> There isn't a weak track on this cd.From the word go the assualt starts and never let's up for even a breather. What is great though is the dynamics of the songs.<strong>"In the Dead of Night"</strong> is kick ass which I personally count as one of my favourites. But that is not all, oh no, <strong>"Lover's Lane"</strong> and <strong>"Menage A Mort"</strong> are equally splendid tracks, the latter has a steady Jazz/Swing beat in Usher serenades (or not) us with his demented lyrics. "Menage A Mort" is greats on every level. Musicall it is a Blues-based track but one that is explosive and powerful. <br> Definately recommended for horropunks!! </span> <br> </td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </table> <table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="center" bordercolor="#C0C0C0" border="1"> <tr> <td> <table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"> <tr> <td> <table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"> <tr> <td height="90" valign="top"><span class="gensmall"><br /></span> <td height="90" align = "center" valign="top"><span class="gensmall"></font><strong> <img border="0" src="images/othervoices.jpg" alt="Gothik Radio" title="Gothik Radio" width="168" height="188"></td> <td height="90" align = "center" valign="top"><span class="gensmall"><strong> <a name="voices">Other Voices - Anatomy of a Pain</a> </strong> <br><br><p> What is it with In the Night Time as a label? They keep on releasing these bands that are certainly all at the top of the gothik music scene.<br> Or rather should be! Word of advice - if they release it, just buy it! <br> Anyway, Other Voices is another Italian band that enivitably will be a delight to any respectable old and new rock waver. For the people who like The Cure, AATT, The Names, and some French cold wave acts which seem to be the most correct comparisons for this excellent band!<br> Certain records snuggle into you quite similiar to a drill that snuggles into an eyesocket, not expecting it but once there it stays. Perfectly comfortable with a slight sense of unease, well this album is one of those! Not assualted by noise or screeching guitars nor the ethereal fallacies filling a room like a pungent odour.<br> Other Voices offer a slender sound with just enough to grab hold off with out loosing it altogether. Sung in English you are presented with a promise that is smartly buoyant and keeps your interest. <strong>Well's Anomalies</strong> has a stricter feel then the other tracks on the album with vocals that almost seem ready to go off on one exploration of it's own but instead sneaks around the icy guitar and stays there moodily untill slipping quietly into a more gradual incline.<br> <strong>& But A Chill Runs Along Your Spine& </strong> is quite the little Goth track. With stronger drums, the flickering guitar and bass all sneaking along darkly untill a lighter spirit enters the song and the floatiness encourages the guitar to a bit more muscle which in turn urges bolder vocals through.<br> This is a great album of cold cold wave ...dramatic coldness& Coldly Recommended! </span> <br> </td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </table> <table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="center" bordercolor="#C0C0C0" border="1"> <tr> <td> <table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"> <tr> <td> <table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"> <tr> <td height="90" valign="top"><span class="gensmall"><br /></span> <td height="90" align = "center" valign="top"><span class="gensmall"></font><strong> <img border="0" src="images/object.jpg" alt="Gothik Radio" title="Gothik Radio" width="168" height="188"></td> <td height="90" align = "center" valign="top"><span class="gensmall"><strong> <a name="object">Object - EP#1</a> </strong> <br><br> <p> Now I dont know too much about their history.Where and how they started. However after a first album released in 2003, more rockish but already with traces of the cold and the skinned, they have decided to erase the past. <br> Presenting us with 5 tracks that are promising and certainly delivers. This is more about coldwave flirting with post-punk. A great sense of melody. Swirling somewhere between The Chameleons and Mono with a touch of Joy Division and draped in the shadow of French coldwave. <br> <strong>L'as En Toi (S'efface En Moi)</strong> starts with drums and the voice speaking. Soon enough the bass guitar jumps into the mix with the voice continueing it 's journey, crescendoing in the chorus where the voice and the guitars explode onto your ears. <br> <strong>Ou Est Quand ?</strong> Starts of more melodic with guitars and drums soon joined by the bass. The voice this time sings.Taking us on a musical road we can identify with. This is a lovely track. <br> <strong>Sauf Le Démon</strong> is absolutely fantastic and I really like this track!Great mix of instruments. Wonderful melody creating a sense of anticipation and edginess. <br> I can not find a single track on here that is not good! These guys are definately one to watch out for.Playing along side legends like Jad Wio can we expect anything less! <br> A great solid album from a very talented band! <br> Highly Recommended <br> http://www.myspace.com/objectlegroupe </span> <br> </td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </table> <table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="center" bordercolor="#C0C0C0" border="1"> <tr> <td> <table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"> <tr> <td> <table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"> <tr> <td height="90" valign="top"><span class="gensmall"><br /></span> <td height="90" align = "center" valign="top"><span class="gensmall"></font><strong> <img border="0" src="images/otherday.jpg" alt="Gothik Radio" title="Gothik Radio" width="168" height="188"></td> <td height="90" align = "center" valign="top"><span class="gensmall"><strong> <a name="otherday">Other Day - Karmapolis</strong> <br><br> <p> Other Day was founded in 1995. After some changes in the line-up, they ve found stability as a trio with Sad(Sven) as singer, D eep, the instrumentalist and Mike Bornschein. In their early days, their goal was to create a combination of dark wave, Romanticism with some classical elements, not far from the ingredients of the German expressionists of the 90 s such as Das Ich, Goethes Erben and Relatives Menschsein. Karmapolis is their third album! <br> Using synths and electronics in what they see as a classical approach ignoring all Industrial or Electro intrusion, they set the atmosphere for an escape in to dark and moody landscapes.Evoking emotions that seem comfortably nested deep into your soul. <br> Sung moslty in German,( non - german speaking people loose some of the emotional context of this album. <br> The album starts with a powerful but seren flow and never lets go of it . Dreamy and heavenly female vocals counter pointing the dark male voice. There is no ethereal lightnesson this album, similiar to early Goethes Erben. <br> <strong>Armenia</strong> reminds me of Relatives Menschsein, but a excellent song expressing that the drift through pain and loneliness is not a pleasant one. <br> <strong>An Uns Vorbei</strong>is layered drones, with a melancolic melody and piano setting the background to the beautiful interaction of the male\femal voice. <br> <strong>Hauchendes Zart</strong>is my favourite track on this album, very classical in the appraoch and from the start you know you will like it. Strangely I am almost reminded of early Mortiis, think "Keiser av en dimensjon ukjent" when it starts but the that is where it ends.A beautiful emotional track! <br> A beautiful record that takes you deeply on an emotional journey. <br> Highly Recommended <br> http://www.myspace.com/otherday </span> <br> </td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </table> <table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="center" bordercolor="#C0C0C0" border="1"> <tr> <td> <table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"> <tr> <td> <table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"> <tr> <td height="90" valign="top"><span class="gensmall"><br /></span> <td height="90" align = "center" valign="top"><span class="gensmall"></font><strong> <img border="0" src="images/orderofisaz.jpg" alt="Gothik Radio" title="Gothik Radio" width="168" height="188"></td> <td height="90" align = "center" valign="top"><span class="gensmall"><strong> <a name="orderofisaz">Order of Isaz - st</strong> <br><br> <p> <br> These are a few guys from some big names in the scene coming together to create what is essentially a must have. A few things struck me immediately , fortunately none of them caused massive bruising, but they did leave a mark. Firstly the quality of the musicianship here is certainly worth noting. The guitar and bass weaving together and producing rather interesting and beautiful counter point to each other, and the same can be said about the guitars. Certainly these guys know how to play their instruments. For some reason on first listen I was a bit reminded of the guitar playing of In Flames...melodic with great harmonies, or was it Therion? <br> Secondly a voice kept nagging in my head that the vocals sounds like very much like Behind the Scenes,no no.What was it... walking through the Wonderland? <br> Ah yes, Malaise! <br> This is powerful emotionally charged gothik rock with brilliant guitar riffs and great vocals! a Delight for ears all around. <br> <strong>Walk in the Park</strong> is an absolute beauty.Crafted and seamed together with such masterful hands that it just has to become a must at all clubs! It's brilliant guitars and vocals will make itself a home in your head in a very short time. <br> <strong>Screeching Owl</strong> isa passionate affair with some incredibly strong moments that reeks with emotion.Great guitar moments, great quiet moments. It features great dynamics. <br> I am fortunate to have listened to this and I hope they release an album soon enough.
