Gothik Radio The Weegs - Meat The Weegs

Dark post-punk music fused with electronics. Raw guitar sounds and screamed vocals are combined with electronic rhythms and melodies. The songs are mostly rather fast, even neurotic and nervous at times. When the band takes a little step back they come up with crazy disco punk music. Especially ”Pink elephant walk” and “M.I.A” are great tracks. Somewhat like The Phantom Limbs and The Au Pairs mixed and some added electronics on top of that.
The Weegs inhabit an eerie space at the carnival next to the freak show stand.

Gothik Radio The Weegs - The Million Sounds Of Black

The Weegs return with a second full length record of tripped out distorto-skronk that just edges on blatant cacophony but some how manages to make sense and at the same time be a damn fine work.
Latching onto early American punk/ post-punk and California "no wave" , they drag themselves kicking and screaming into the 21st century. Welcome the disjointedly pulsing rhythm throbs along with hypnotic bursts of feedback and noise that would do Arto Lindsay proud. This art-damaged racket is still uncannily musical, like some freak-beat psych band gone horribly wrong.
Favourite tracks include Sixty-Five MPH, Rations and Daphid Which features some Rozz inspired vocals.
Superb

Gothik Radio Wallenberg - Sea of Sins

This is no new band suddenly on the shores of gothik rock. No, these guys were there back in the 80's and now more then two decades later they return. Offering to us more of the same quality gothik rock we grew up with, well most of us.Traces of Christian Death and Virgin Prunes is evident on this release. Even some traces of the Cure linger here and there.
Having been one of the most important bands in the French cold - wave scene between 1984 and 1988 , they had countless live shows and concerts supporting Play Dead,Jad Wio, Neva and many more!
Sea of Sins starts with solid drums, pounding a good rhythm followed soon by a wonderful guitar riff and lastly coming to full maturity when the bass drops in. At first the voice seems a little out of place, not quite knowing where to be placed, but it is exactly this not quite belonging that makes it so appealing. And you soon get used to it. I actually think it adds to the emotional value of the song.Adding to it a dimension of desperation, a dimension of madness and utter abandonement for the conventional one so often heard with the Virgin Prunes.
But is a slightly slower track, and now that our ears have become used to the voice, we can actually appreciate how truly good these guys are. The music is beatifully written, dripping with atmosphere, thin guitars , pounding drums and very convincing vocals.
Hypnotic (Or MDP) takes us straight into the Batcave.Nestling there all smugly with a great low end bass and drums.Dirge and thin guitars fluttering about. The vocals on this track is very good.I can hear some Jacquy Bitch influence in the high vocals. Not surprisingly one can quickly guess why they were so popular in the 80's.
Welcome Home and Definitely (Too Much Class For This Neigbourhood) are more great songs with good solid drums and very nice accoustic guitars. Delivering consistantly good tracks. Why is another highlight on this disk. But by now you should know what to expect and this track does not dissappoint.
All in all a great release, once you get used to the strange sounding voice, you discover how good the music is.And why these are guys were so important in the French scene.
Highly Recommended
